#1: What If…? #7 “What If… Hela Found the Ten Rings?”

Another good episode. I realize some people might find the What If… series cringey because it dives into a lot of nerd shit and tends to place characters together who otherwise wouldn’t have met each other. But as someone who doesn’t read comics, I will admit I like that nerd shit. I want to know what would happen if Asgard and the Ten Rings were aware of each other, because one of my big annoyances with the MCU is that among all the power creep and suddenly introduced characters who have totally been around forever, there hasn’t been much interaction.

This episode begs the question of what if Odin cast down Hela to Earth and she discovered the Ten Rings. I assumed that this episode would have Hela stealing the ten rings but she doesn’t. Rather, it goes further into the idea of the relationship between the Ten Rings and Asgard, the former being a weapon actually capable of taking down a god. Heimdall himself can’t see into the mystical land beyond the forest, and Odin decides that maybe it’s time that Midgard be stripped of access to such a powerful weapon if it does indeed exist.

And of course we get a training montage as Hela learns to rely on herself rather than the powers of her helmet.

#2: Chucky Season 3 Episode 6 “Panic Room”

Fuck Santa!

The big question this episode is how would the White House handle the death of the president, and the answer is with a body double. Of course this gives Devon Sawa an opportunity to come back as his own body double in order to one up playing his own brother in season 1. We get to see Chucky make use of the nuclear launch codes with Moscow, Pyongyang, and the North Pole on the docket. Our heroes arrive just in time to stop the launch of everything except the nuke against the North Pole.

I’m somewhat surprised that the nuclear subplot has come and gone. My assumption going into this season with Brad Dourif being 74 years old is that Chucky Season 3 is probably going to be the last one, so honestly ending the series with Chucky nuking the entire world wouldn’t be out of line.

The big question now is why is the White House causing dead people to come back as ghosts, and why is it happening so much more now? What role does Damballa play in all of this? Now that Chucky is dead how are Devon and Jake going to follow him into the afterlife? Tune in next week; same bat time, same bat channel.

#3: Shogun “Chapter Four: The Eightfold Fence”

Finally things are kicking up. You know, I feel the need to apologize for back in Chapter 1 when I said that Shogun was kinda like Game of Thrones. It felt a little Game of Thrones-y to me when it came out but the further I get into the series the less I actually believe that. It’s really nothing like Game of Thrones. Anyway this episode has lots of sex and gore.

Usami Fuji is now my favorite character in this show, not only for when she pulls a gun but her whole character so far this episode. She’s really pulling into her own. It was also a big shock when Nagakado turns around and massacres Jozen and his crew. Build-up? Nah, screw it. We’re in all out war, bitches! I didn’t think the show would get this ridiculous in the bloodshed but damn did they throw a lot of budget into creating bodies realistically ripped apart by cannon fire. I knew these cannons would be used but didn’t expect it to be so soon.

War has started, and we have six episodes to go.

#4: Avatar The Last Airbender Episode 4 “Masks”

What a wonderful episode.

Episode 6 of Avatar is a true heart-breaker. We finally get the explanation for how Zuko got those scars, and Zuko’s crew learns how they came to be under his command. I remembered the part of Zuko’s face getting burned by his dad but forgot the rest of the story. Jee had a lot of character development this episode for the simple fact that he didn’t know what Zuko had sacrificed to put everyone where they were, and that he and his people were only alive because of Zuko standing up for them and being exiled in the process.

I hope we see more of June. I’m also excited to see what happens to Zhao going forward. After all he captured the Avatar, took him to Pohuai Stronghold which has not been breached in its entire existence, only for the stronghold to be breached and the Avatar be stolen in the dead of night right under his guard’s nose. I’m going to guess Ozai might not be so happy about the whole set of circumstances and we’ll see if Zhao can weasel his way out of this one.

Two more episodes left.

#5: Silent Hill Ascension Chapter 19 “Ignited”

Everyone in this show sucks.

There is absolutely no character consistency in this show. People go from loving and defending each other to hating each other at a moment’s notice. The crew meets up in rust world again and the Heralds reveal that they’ve kidnapped Orson. Again. Also they want to kidnap Faith. Again. Mostly because the kids are conduits for the Withering and some stupid garbage like that. Orson doesn’t say anything because they’ve sapped his single braincell. Rachel learns that they need the key, and the key must be fed fingies.

Rachel tries to explain to the Heralds that they are all stupid as shit, on account of them building a cult around a child. Orson meanwhile gains his singular brain cell back and starts demanding that Astrid eat Britt’s hatred. Because someone needs to put a bullet in his head. Eric wakes up in the rust world and then back in the real world where he is confronted by Nora who demands he explain what the hell happened at the mill. Yeah, Eric. What the hell happened at the mill? I mean we already know, Eric screwed something up.

Eric confirms that people died at the mill because Toby got drunk and passed out at the controls. Krista maintains that their key to survival is killing themselves ritualistically and admits she’s given up that Eric would ever leave Rachel and let Krista fart in his mouth. Evil Britt takes Astrid to the center of town and tries to drown her in the town fountain. The towntain. Nills says “lets discuss this on my podcast” and then Evil Britt is spotted walking away from them, and the episode ends.

I guess Britt is going to kill herself now.

#6: X-Men ’97 Episode 7 “Bright Eyes”

Did anyone think that Magneto was actually dead? Episode 7 introduces a new character in the form of Bastion, a guy you’re only aware of if you’ve read the comics or played the video games. Bastion appears in X-Men: Next Dimension, X-Men Legends II, and X-Men: Destiny as well as in Avengers Alliance. I don’t remember him to be honest. The point is that he’s the big baddie of the show, even bigger than Mr. Sinister. He’s the head of a group called OZT, or Operation: Zero Tolerance dedicated to doing evil crap like greenlighting the second season of Velma.

Gyrich is dropped from a big building only to reveal that he is a new generation of sentinel, one that looks like a human until their programming is activated. Now would be a great time for Xavier and Storm to come back, but that wouldn’t make for great hype. Also Captain America shows up, and I’m not sure what to make of that.

If you wanted an episode geared toward Rogue, you are definitely not coming out of this dissatisfied. Rogue got to go on full ass whooping mode, a creature of pure vengeance that would put even Batman to shame. Only three episodes to go this season, and they are the three part finale. You know I think it’s safe to say this is the best thing Marvel has put out in a few years now.

#7: Fallout Episode 3 “The Head”

The rule of the wasteland; “Thou shalt get side tracked by bullshit every time.”

Today’s episode is pretty great. Maximus now finds himself impersonating Titus and even gets a squire of his own; Thaddeus. I love Johnny Pemberton, his character in this show is great. Maximus initially enjoys torturing Thaddeus until Thaddeus reveals that he actually liked Maximus, thinking he’s talking to Titus. Maximus has some good character development and I have a feeling he’ll eventually come clean to Thaddeus, or be forced to. That’ll be a plot point.

We get a little more backstory on Howard and his past history with Vault-Tec, which may explain why he hates Lucy so much. Howard and Lucy fail in their quest to get Wilzog’s head back from the gulper, however Maximus and Thaddeus are perfectly capable of doing it themselves. Unfortunately with Howard’s meds being destroyed in the process, he takes Lucy off on a side quest to get new stuff. Don’t worry, Howard, this is a Bethesda show. The main quest is always there when you’re ready to come back.

We also get a nod to the original Fallout’s story as back in Vault 32 it is revealed that the water chip was destroyed in the attack.
