Funimation has put a stop to its simulcast/simuldub contract with the show Interspecies Reviewer after it became obvious that the show was basically hentai in all but an R18 rating.
Interspecies Reviewer is an anime based on a manga that just began streaming its first season. The show is a fantasy tale (elves, fairies, and stuff) about some characters that go around the world to brothels to determine which species is sexiest.
If you read “bestiality porn” out of that description, you probably understand why Funimation yoinked it. The anime is crude enough that a pop-up cafe opened in Japan that served a sausage dish meant to be one of the character’s dongs.
The company stated:
“After careful consideration, we determined that this series falls outside of our standards. We have the utmost respect for our creators so rather than substantially alter the content, we felt taking it down was the most respectful choice.”
I haven’t seen this series myself, but it looks like Interspecies Reviewer may be the victim of networks grabbing at whatever they can without actually knowing what they are buying. Interspecies Reviewer apparently started out somewhat tame in episode one and was basically full on hentai in episode three which is where Funimation pulled it.
Europeans can still stream Interspecies Reviewer on Wakanim with subtitles. For now.
