It’s time to blow up stuff. (Spoilers).
Hard to believe that at the end of Halo Season 1 I was thinking how stupid it was that they already greenlit the show for a second season. And now I’m glad they greenlit the show for a second season. We are halfway through the eight episode season 2 of Halo and my feelings are pretty much a direct inverse of season 1. Interesting stuff is happening, I’m enjoying the characters, the action is engaging and well-produced, and more importantly it isn’t season 1 of Halo.
But there’s no butt cheeks. I think we could all use some butt cheeks.

I didn’t expect we’d be getting some humanizing features for Ackerson this time around, given the time we spend learning about his father and his dementia and his sister being part of the Spartan II program and dying. Nobody wants to be in that position where we have to euthanize our dad before abandoning the planet we’re on for the greater good in the longer war, but it’s something we all inevitably have to deal with in our lives. Ackerson and his father (Bill Patterson) play off each other quite well, and the whole subplot of bringing back his sister Julia (Bronte Carmichael) as a flash clone to keep her dad company while they both died was heart wrenching.
Bronte Carmichael has probably racked up more on-screen deaths than most actors twice her age just with the first three episodes of this season.

Meanwhile the subplot with Kwan Ha and Laera and Kessler is keeping its interest up, although it feels like episode 3 and 4 were really trying to wrap up a bunch of loose ends so the show could focus on John Chief and the fall of Reach. I’m just saying, it was shocking to see Kwan show up on the ship and kill off Soren’s mutinous crew. This will give us a new side-plot as Kwan and Laera track down Kessler who Kwan handily left on a ship bound toward anywhere but here. Hopefully less of this and more of the Chief.
I think it’s fair to say that Kai is with Ackerson and this along with the whole stealing their armor before a big fight is going to cause a rift between the members of Silver team. Oh and Vannak dying in battle partly because they didn’t have their armor. Oh and Admiral Keyes dying. I’m going to go on a limb here and guess that Soren is going to rejoin the Spartans in an unofficial capacity but also get his hands on some dope ass armor, perhaps alongside a quip about how it finally looks good with him in the pilot’s seat. Something like that.

Where do we go from here? Well the fight over Reach isn’t over yet, by which I mean the fall of Reach isn’t over yet. The big question is how far into the last four episodes will this go? We already know episode 8 is titled Halo, meaning that must be where the show starts connecting into the timeline of the games. That is assuming we get a season 3. Wouldn’t it be wild if they cancelled the show just as it was getting good?
See you in a couple weeks!
