Brett Bentman doesn’t have much talent.

Brett Bentman is the McDonald’s grillmaster of movie directors and I say that because his work is very clearly quantity over quality. You don’t release fourteen movies in the first half of 2024 when you give more than the bare minimum of a shit about how they turn out, and Bentman has one whole film that rates higher than a 5 on IMDB from the last four years.

Doc Holliday stars Tom Zembrod as the toughest job in 2023 which is playing Doc Holliday and not being Val Kilmer. Zembrod is a perfectly acceptable actor for made-for-TV movies like this, so I feel bad for the guy knowing that he’ll pretty much just be considered the dollar store Val Kilmer. Originally I thought Zembrod was trying to do a shitty Kilmer impression, but as the film progressed I realized he was doing a terrible Johnny Depp drunk pirate impression.

Zombrod does play a good role of an old west gunslinger, being he’s a gigantic asshole who screws over pretty much everyone he comes across and gets away with it because he can shoot them first and better. Doc Holliday gets recruited by Wyatt Earp (Derrick Redford) who promises him a deputization and a new lease on life if he helps out with a simple request.

Head out to Arizona, track down the deadly Bridle Brothers, and as always; kill Hitler. The Bridle Brothers are named that on account of the horse-themed incest they engage in. I’m just kidding, they ride horses and stuff. Jeffrey (Billy Blair) and Jon (Stephen Brodie) both look like sleazy bastards fit for a western. Robert Keith is here as Pastor Willingham, there’s a duo named Bandit Billy and Bandit Willie.

The most enthusiastic person in this film was Pistol Paula who plays Pistol Packing Paula. Paula has had a long career as an entertainer and she has a similar role here to that little girl who did the gymnastics in Jurassic Park because the actress could do it. I did enjoy her pistol twirling show and I assume she was also on set to give some pointers to the crew on how to handle a gun.

Ultimately Doc Holliday is the generic frozen pizza of films. It’s not something you should go out of your way to see, because there’s nothing spectacular about it. However if someone ties you to a chair and threatens to blow your brains out unless you watch it, you should probably choose this film over death.
